I tried fried cauliflower for the first time a couple months ago at a restaurant while having lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised! Where has this been all my life? A light, crispy batter wrapped around tender, sweet cauliflower bites, tossed in a sweet and spicy honey Sriracha glaze and garnished with a bit of green onion to add some freshness into the dish... who knew it could taste so good? I was determined to recreate a similar version at home. After testing a few variations of batter and cooking processes (deep-fry versus pan-fry) and in an effort to use less cooking oil, here's my pan-fried version of the crispy cauliflower dish. Enjoy!
Fried Cauliflower with Honey Sriracha Sauce Recipe
Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes
⅓ cup All-Purpose Flour
⅓ cup Corn Starch
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
½ cup Cold Water
½ cup Canola or Peanut Oil
2 tbsp Honey
1 tbsp Sriracha
1 Green Onion, finely-sliced, for garnish
*Alternatively, you can also deep fry the cauliflower with 2 qt of a frying oil of your choice in a dutch oven on medium to medium-high heat. Deep-fry the cauliflower for 4-5 minutes, or until the batter is a light, golden-brown colour.
